El Mirador de la Bahía - 200 feet (toward Rincón)
A 3-story lookout tower on a small cliff overlooking the Añasco Bay on Route 115.

Punta Higuero Lighthouse - 4 miles (toward Rincón)
The Punta Higuero Lighthouse was built by the Spaniards in the early 1890s. This lighthouse still in use and it uses an unmanned 26,000-candlepower rotating beacon. Located a few minutes driving time from Playa Almirante, this Park provides breathtaking vistas of the coast of western Puerto Rico, Desecheo Island, 16 miles offshore, whale watching and of course stunning sunsets. Park features a snack bar and gift shop.

El Castillo amusement park features the largest wave pool in the Caribbean, a medieval castle, antique museum, and haunted house. Open on Wed-Sun & Holidays 10am-6pm. (787) 826-0866

Juan A. Rivero Zoo (Mayagüez Zoo) - 6 miles
The Mayagüez Zoo is only Zoo in the island and is home of numerous birds, mammals and reptiles (including Bengal tigers, and Andean condors among others). Cages and open compounds stand in an attractively landscaped setting of small islands, a lake, tropical vegetation and children's playground. Open Wed-Sun from 8:30am to 4:00pm. (787) 834-8110.

Club Deportivo del Oeste Golf Course & Marina - 12 miles
The Club Deportivo Del Oeste has a 9-hole golf course which is open to the public. It features a driving range and a practice putting green. After the round you can enjoy drinks or a meal at the full-service restaurant.

Punta Borinquen Golf Course - 15 miles
Built in 1940 for the US Air Force Golf Aficionados stationed at the former Ramey Base, this 18 hole semi-flat course with breathtaking views of the sea, was played by such well known Generals as Dwight D. Eisenhower. It is now a public golf course. Its straight and open fairways are well maintained and cooled by sea breezes.

Porta Coeli Catholic Church - 20 miles
This chapel, built in the town of San German, is the oldest Christian religious structure in the Americas. It was built in 1606 as part of a convent.
Originally it was the church of the Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Inside
you will find valuable examples of religious art from the XVI to the XIX
centuries. This collection includes paintings, images, sculptures and religious
objects donated from various churches around the Island.

Cabo Rojo Recreational Area - 26 miles
Located on the Southwest corner of Puerto Rico, this town’s first church was inaugurated in 1783 with the name of San José. The bay at Boquerón, part of the Municipality of Cabo Rojo, extends some 3 1/2 miles inland, sheltering over a mile of white sand bordered by clear water is wonderful for swimming and lounging. It is excellent beach for swimming.
The Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge, a subtropical dry forest, has a visitors center as well as bird-watching trails, 50 bird species, several endangered.
The Cabo Rojo Lighthouse was built in 1881 over limestone cliffs that drop 200 feet into the sea. It is also known as "Faro de Los Morillos". This old lighthouse was automated and electrically charged in 1967. Spectacular views.

La Parguera (Phosphorescent Bay) - 30 miles
An excellent night excursion, especially on nights wth no moon. Boats take visitors from the town of “La Parguera” to the Bio Luminescent bay to the east. One of the few bio luminescent bays in the world due to it’s rare and delicate ecological make up.

Cuevas de Camuy (Caverns) - 35 miles
Rio Camuy Cave Park is the third-largest cave system in the world. Sixteen entrances have been discovered and 11 kilometers (7 miles) of passages have been mapped to date. One special attraction is the Cueva Clara, which measures 695 feet (210m) in length. The park is equipped with picnic areas, walking trails, food facilities, an exhibition hall and a souvenir shop, an excellent day trip.

Arecibo Observatory - 35 miles
For almost 40 years radio astronomers at the Arecibo Observatory have used this,
the world's largest radio telescope, to fathom the sounds of the universe.The site is so impressive that movie stars and Hollywood producers have used the observatory in various films, most recently in Contact, the film adaptation of the Carl Sagan bestseller that starred Jodie Foster. It was also the setting of the finale of Pierce Brosnan's first James Bond flick Golden Eye.
